Russian community
If you speak Russian, you may be interested in
za_lib_ru, which seems to be a community based around some sort of free electronic library in Russia. Their motivation appears to be that they believe that the Russian people have a right to understand the world and know what is going on both inside and outside Russia, and that the people have the "right to read". This is very powerful, given the history of censorship and oppression that some people in that community no doubt are old enough to remember. Here's what appears to be a post on the history of the library, in English (Babelfish translation) and in Russian.
